IBM has issued a recall for 553,000 AC adapters sold between January 1999
and August 2000. The adapters were sold with IBM's ThinkPad i, 390 and 240
series notebook computers. Only adapters with the part number 02K6549 are
affected. IBM has received reports that some of these adapters have
overheated, resulting in melting of adapter housing and charring of the
circuit board inside the housing.

TSG will assist with requesting replacements for affected adapters and with
returning the old ones to IBM. If you believe you may have an affected
adapter, please email userhelp at cs.uiuc.edu. Please read further for
information on how to identify potentially affected adapters and for what
information TSG will need in order to assist with obtaining a replacement.

IBM has setup a website for this recall program at:

When contacting TSG, we will need to know the serial number of your laptop
and the serial number of the AC adapter. The first URL above shows how to
find the AC adapter serial number, the second the system serial number. TSG
will take care of processing the replacement request with IBM as well as
packaging and shipping back your old adapter after the replacement arrives.
